MIAMI, Fla. – Indelible Solutions and Break the Cycle are teaming up to combat vaccine hesitancy and encourage people of color to take the COVID-19 vaccine. The partnership brings together the urban cycling group whose mission is to cultivate a culture of health while bringing attention to major issues plaguing communities of color and a minority-owned business with a proven track record of working with communities to affect change and connect much needed resources to underserved communities.
Break the Cycle and Indelible Solutions will host several Ride for a Cause events throughout Miami-Dade County over the next several weeks. The partnership ride will officially kick off on Sunday, June 13 at 9:45 a.m. meeting at 801 NW 3rd Ave., in Miami.
Senator Shevrin “Shev” Jones (D-Miami Gardens) said, “COVID-19 has ravaged communities of color across our state and nation. It’s a fact that African Americans are nearly 3x more likely to end up hospitalized from COVID-19 and nearly 2x more likely to die from the virus. Whether you label it mistrust or vaccine hesitancy, too few people of color are taking the vaccine. And THAT is a public health crisis. I took the shot, not just for my health but for the health of my entire community. The underserved continue to be forgotten by a public health system that hasn’t addressed the concerns inherent in these communities. Let’s change that and break the cycle together.”
Maurice Hanks, Founder of Break the Cycle, said, “Our mission is to promote fitness while bringing attention to serious issues that disproportionately impact people of color. Together with Indelible Solutions, we want to break the cycle of mistrust in public health and show our community that when all of us are healthy, it makes our communities stronger. We ride together to build trust and urge families to become better informed and more educated about the COVID-19 vaccine.”
Josh Hay, Partner, Indelible Solutions said, “There is no question that this virus disproportionately affects minority communities. More of our families and friends got COVID-19 and had complications from it, and more of our families and friends died from this virus. People of color should be first in line to take this vaccine. We are thrilled to work with Break the Cycle to build trust within communities of color and show families that people who look like them, who live and work in their communities, are getting the vaccine and encourage others to do the same.”
Indelible Solutions is a Florida-based, minority owned business with a proven track record of working with state and local governments to effectively execute programs, ensuring they are equitable and accessible to those who need them the most.
Break the Cycle is a spirited and innovative urban cycling group of both budding and experienced cyclists who represent the diversity of South Florida and are committed to “pedaling for a purpose.” Under the leadership of visionary Maurice Hanks, this group of talented riders have successfully cultivated a culture of fitness through novice, intermediate, and competitive riding, while championing impactful causes.
